Visit San Juan Islands

“Your exploration of Orcas Island may take you to the quaint hamlets of Deer Harbor, Westsound, Orcas and Olga. The commercial center of the island is Eastsound Village, on the north end of the island. The population is clustered in tiny havens where you’ll find hand-crafted works of art created by island artisans, small restaurants, and espresso stands featuring locally roasted coffee.

The largest and hilliest of all the islands, Orcas provided summer shellfishing grounds for the Lummi Indians until the settlement years of the 1800’s. Farming, fishing, and logging eventually became the primary areas of commerce, but remain so for only a few of today's residents. Orcas has an area of 56.9 square miles. Population is about 4,900.” | Orcas Island, San Juan Washington County Website

I knew very little about the San Juan Islands before taking this trip but learned more and more interesting facts as I talked to the locals. Their recommendations were perfect for my introverted, somewhat foodie-self. This is definitely a place I’d enjoy visiting again.
