I didn’t know how broken I was
I’d been in networking marketing companies before…three to be exact; one of them a makeup + skincare company. And here I was again at 46 years old contemplating another go at direct sales.
If I allow myself to get focused on the past, I find myself regretting not starting sooner or thinking I should have just stayed with my previous companies. It can feel like failure to be well into your “back half” of life trying to start something new.
The other big thing that nudged me into saying yes to becoming a Beautycounter consultant was my health. After being severely anemic for so many years that it became my normal to function exhausted, I had to have a hysterectomy. It was probably always going to be the case for me, but I had focused so much of my time and energy on solo parenting my child into young adulthood that I barely had the time or energy to learn to take care of myself.
My health was put on the back burner because I hadn’t learned to prioritize caring for my whole self and being a mother. It always felt to me that it was a choice I had to make. My hair was thinning and falling out, I was at a dangerously low weight and I was so insecure about my body.
I didn’t think Beautycounter could fix all of that, but what it had helped me do as a client and later as a member was learn to care about the ingredients in my products. This fueled me to begin looking at more of my cleaning products, foods, storage containers, and hair care routines. I became vigilant about making changes and Beautycounter helped me do that as an advocate for myself and now I can help other women do the same.
